Extra-Sensory Perception activity ideas?
Q. I have a presentation to do on extra-sensory perception in my Psych class and I wanted to give the class some sort of exercise or activity to do to accompany my presentation. I honestly can't think of anything though, so I could use some help. Do you guys think it would be possible to come up with something?

A. Flashcards with simple shapes on them. Ask the class what shapes they think are on them, the ones who are correct move on to the next round until only one person (or nobody) is left.

Q. Is ESP or extra sensory perception possible? Is it real? Whats the evidence? Does it make evolutionary sense? Can the "evidence" for extra sensory perception be explained in other ways?

A. Extra Sensory Perception - ESP Many people are skeptical about Extra Sensory Perception - ESP - and related states like telepathy, mind reading, clairvoyance etc. The main criticism has often been leveled at para-psychologists that there may be a tendency to be fraudulent and to fake the results. The chief reason is lack of scientific knowledge about ESP. Secondly, it is indeed very difficult to accept such states without self-experience, which is difficult and rare to come by, by itself or without regular and adequate practice of controlling the mind. A final criticism is that, for phenomena such as extrasensory perception and psychokinesis to be true, fundamental physical laws would have to be broken! Some adopt the view that… [cont.]

A. Hi Mary Ann, I believe that we all have it. Our brains are analogue machines that come up with undecipherable activities all the time. Our brains make a very hard effort to inform us when it knows something and wants us to be aware of it. You can call it extrasensory perception if you want. You don't add much to a well dug and poked at set of semantics formed into some syntax that are supposed to sound official and important. Extra-sensory Perception?
Q. Ok, this is hard to explain; but sometimes ill know that im receiving a text message on my cellphone before the ringer goes off. Ill actually pull my phone out of my pocket and have it in my hand when the ringer starts. This happens around 40% of every time i receive a text message or a phone call. Could this be extra-sensory perception? Or could radio waves be going through my head to my phone and maybe im noticing them? Can anyone help explain this strange phenomenon? Dear Guy with unpronauncable name: My phone doesn't light up when its receiving a text or a call, but it does after it rings. I don't think im seeing it out of the corner of my eye, but an interesting thought. And i partially agree with you on confirmation bias; however,… [cont.]

A. There are plenty of potential explanations, none of which involve ESP, which has never, ever been able to stand up to real scientific scrutiny. It's also unlikely that you're noticing radio waves. First of all, the human body is almost completely transparent to radio waves. There's just nothing in a human body that can pick up radio waves like an antenna. Second, even if you could detect radio waves, there are radio waves traveling to every other cell phone for miles around, so you should be getting lots of "false alerts" as you also pick up everyone else's radio waves. I think the most likely explanation is that your phone is going through some processes between the time it receives the incoming message or call and the time when it… [cont.]

A. ESP (extrasensory perception) ESP is most commonly called the "sixth sense." It is sensory information that an individual receives which comes beyond the ordinary five senses sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. It can provide the individual with information of the present, past, and future; as it seems to originate in a second or alternate reality.
